Nonessential Panic

By Craig Andresen on April 6, 2011

If the government shuts down on Friday night, perhaps more accurately, WHEN the government shuts down, there will be some impact on some citizens but, it won’t be the Armageddon predicted by liberals.

If you were waiting for a passport…you’ll have to keep waiting. Seriously, there aren’t that many countries worth visiting right now anyway.

If you are about to get a home or small business loan…you’re not going to until all the NON essential government workers get back to process your NON essential loan. You’ve waited this long…just hang on a little longer. If you were to get your loan you might actually be accused of helping to grow the economy and we can’t have THAT.

Need to renew your driver’s license or have other business at the Department of Motor Vehicles? Keep moving…nothing to do but wait it out. It seems those snarling crabby people who work there aren’t actually essential. Perhaps they’ll be in a better mood after a little time away.

I hope you e-filed your tax return. If you did it the old fashioned way…you WILL get your return if you have one coming just…not right away. For the most part, the IRS lacks in its necessity.

Those serving our great country in uniform overseas may have their pay delayed but, I suspect, they will not let down their guard as they know they serve for a higher purpose.

If you are WORKING for the federal government, well, you may well soon discover that you are…NOT essential. About 800,000 of you just aren’t and you will be sent home.

Planning a trip or vacation to any one of our 356 national parks? Change your plans as they will be closed. Now, if you are already INSIDE one of our national parks…you will have 48 hours to vacate that park. If seeing the Grand Canyon is on your bucket list…get a deeper bucket.

Those who ARE essential will continue to waste taxpayer dollars as usual. Oh…they may well have to work a little HARDER at it as there won’t be as many people to delegate to but they WILL continue to spend like the wind.

Social security checks will still go out so grandma can eat and this will cause great distress amongst liberals.

National security will continue to be mostly ignored.

You can still get felt up at the airport and if none of the air traffic controller fall asleep, planes will take off and land and your baggage will continue to be mishandled and lost at the appropriate rate.

The border control agents will, as if nothing has changed, continue to ignore illegals as per the orders of the current administration.

Don’t be expecting to access any fresh information on government websites as those will not be working. Farmville is, as of this writing, NOT run by the government so feel free to continue planting blueberries.

You can look at the Smithsonian and other federal museums or zoos and such, but only from the outside.

Medicare IS essential and therefore WILL continue to be funded however, other services from Health and Human Services are not and will not.

The EPA, and oh how we love the EPA, will only maintain services necessary for the protection of life so please don’t pollute during the shutdown as they will not delve into water, land or air filth as THOSE things are NOT essential.

Federal inmates at prisons WILL remain under lock and key and Federal inmates at the asylums known as the senate and the house will be free to carry on but always under the watchful eye of CSPAN security cameras.

There will be fewer personnel working as staff members because apparently many of them are NOT essential. Michelle may have to pick out her own $600.00 pair of shoes. OH THE HUMANITY!!!

So…IF or when the government shuts down at midnight on Friday, relax. Will there be some headaches? Sure but remember, the longest one of these things has gone on was only 3 weeks. I am hoping that liberals in congress spend some of that time doing what I will be doing during the shutdown…

Wondering just how much of OUR…ESSENTIAL money they are spending on…NONessential programs and personnel.
