Obama’s Policy Unmasked

By Craig Andresen on March 15, 2011

As the Middle East continues to fall into a state of mass despair and as our gas prices continue to rise, many have asked; What IS our policy in the region? It’s not only a valid question…it’s a darn good one too.

It started in Tunisia when their government toppled after a popular uprising. The Obama administration seemed to be caught flat footed. Giving the benefit of the doubt, it DID happen quickly and the build-up was pretty quiet. What appeared to be a situation of being unaware probably was just that. Honestly. I don’t think anybody saw it coming.

Next, it was Egypt and once again, Obama and the administration was on the outside looking in, floundering about looking for the right course of action. One by one, administration officials came forward and each, in turn, offered a different take on our official stance. Ads the situation in Cairo grew more tense Obama finally made it clear, he wanted a 30 year ally out and was willing to accept a Muslim Brotherhood representation at the table. When it was over and Mubarak was gone, Obama stepped through the back door and claimed to have, “Gotten it about right.” If by that, he meant doing nothing and allowing potential anti western concerns to move in was his policy decision then I suppose he got it about right.

On to Libya where yet another popular uprising took root. As Gadaffi threatened rivers of blood and to fight to the last to maintain his grip on power, Obama ordered all our diplomatic personnel out of that country and to GET them out, he sent a sightseeing ferry. As the situation in Libya went from bad to worse with Gadaffi firing on and killing off his own people with his military’s aircraft and with the Libyan rebels begging for a no fly zone to level the playing field, Obama has done nothing. Hemming and hawing about considering a no fly zone is not a policy. It IS a brilliant display of NOT having a policy.

Or is it?

Saudia Arabia was (and still is) in danger of an uprising and their leaders have already fired on THEIR people. Now, the Obama administration as ordered all non emergency personnel out of Bahrain. There have been rumblings in Kuwait as well. Oil prices are climbing. Radical Islamists are hoping for vacuums to fill, dictators are killing their own, the region is on fire and still that question hangs heavy; What IS our policy in the Middle East?

To most observers, it SEEMS clear…Obama HAS no policy.

I disagree.

I believe he has a very clear policy in the Middle East but NOT one he wants many people to know.

Obama’s Middle East policy, it seems clear to me, is to cede our national security, our national interests and the safety of those in harm’s way from the tyranny of brutal dictators to the United Nations and I believe there is some evidence to support this.

In Egypt, as pro Mubarak police squads were killing Egyptians, Obama’s chief diplomats were indeed at the United Nations, NOT discussing the situation in THAT country, as the UN had no official position on THAT conflict but instead to condemn ISRAEL for building apartments on ISRAELI land.

In Libya, Obama waited 9 full days before he even uttered the name Gadaffi and while the mad dog of the Middle East continues to route his own people away from Tripoli with military aircraft we stand by…contemplating? No…we’re waiting for the United Nations to make our decision for us. It has been announced today that, “U.N. Introduces NO-Fly Draft Resolution on Libya” I expect we will spring into action as soon as it is passed…IF it is passed.

While oil prices rise and pump prices soar, while one by one the region which produces and controls the world’s oil falls to turmoil, we sit and wait for the U.N. to decide our fate. One would THINK that the gas prices would at least move Obama into SOME sort of action but THAT would be a misguided assumption. After all, rising gas and oil prices are better for Obama’s environmental policy and that far outweighs concerns over our national security and our economy. Think about it. When was the last time you heard the U.N. raising concerns over OUR interests?

Now…when was the last time you hear the U.N. raise concerns over the environment?

See what I mean?

Israel wants to build settlements on their own land. Does Obama back them? Iran ramps up their nuclear program. Does Obama do anything to stop them? Gadaffi slaughters his own people from the air. Is Obama acting to stop him?

NO. Obama waits for the U.N. and when a sanction comes along, he signs on.

Here’s what’s at stake. The last best hope for socialism to take hold is for the Middle East to devolve into chaos. Oil will stop flowing and prices will sky rocket. As that happens, our economy will completely collapse and people will be left grasping at straws. More people will be unemployed and relying on government assistance, more businesses will fail or rely on government bail outs and the dollar will be further devalued. Who wins? Big government, Obamacare and the environmental agenda. The outcome? Socialism.

President Reagan didn’t wait for the U.N to make HIS decision which shut Gadaffi up for more than a quarter of a century and President Bush realized that 17 U.N. resolutions against Saddam in 12 years were simply hollow.

If I’m right, no matter what happens in the region, the U.S. will NOT act until the United Nations has something to say on the topic.

If THIS president isn’t willing to put forth his own policy in the Middle East and enforce it, perhaps the next one WILL.
