A Quantum Shift – The Trump Doctrine

Just a couple of weeks ago, President Trump made the first foreign trip of his second term, and in the matter of just a few days, executed a quantum shift in U.S. relations in the Middle East.

The trip was nothing short of astounding.

Sure, there were the deals that garnered plenty of press, deals the liberals hated and railed against, but deals that brought trillions of dollars of investments to the United States. Of course the liberals hated them, and of course they had to try to dispel their importance because they were deals their party never stood a chance in hell of ever being able to make.

You can’t spend two decades apologizing for American exceptionalism, denigrating America and preaching about the evils of America, evils manufactured out of thin air, and expect to be respected by other countries…allies or otherwise. There was not a single Middle East country visited by President Trump just a couple of weeks ago that had even an iota of respect for the United States under Obama, and any gains in respect gained in Trump’s first term were put on hold, or erased under the Biden/Harris regime.

While this trip to small countries with very deep pockets in the Middle East seemed to be focused on economic investment, I contend there was much more to it than just that, but to be clear, the investment angle of this trip was remarkably different than anything we’ve seen recently, or perhaps ever before because this wasn’t about the United States handing out money to foreign nations like handing out candy on Halloween…this trip was about foreign nations investing in the United States.

To fully understand the actual scope and reason for this trip, and to fully grasp the true genius of it, one must take a few steps back to see the bigger picture.

President Trump’s first stop was Saudi Arabia, a trip he made in his first term where he was greeted with great respect, but this time, the greeting was fit for a hero. That’s because during his first term President Trump had begun to stabilize the region with the Abraham Accords, and while Saudi Arabia has not yet signed on, I believe it won’t be long now before they do. The Saudi Royalty greeted President Trump as he got off the plane, something they did not do when Biden went there, because they did not respect Biden as a leader. While in Saudi Arabia, Trump secured $600 billion in Saudi investments, and another $142 billion in purchases of American military equipment.

But there was something else that happened there that was even bigger than the investments. While in Saudi Arabia, President Trump announced he would lift all sanctions imposed on Syria…an announcement that drew a standing ovation at the Saudi Investment Forum. You see, it was the timing of that announcement that was pure genius, as it was made directly before President Trump’s side meeting in Saudi Arabia with the new Syrian leader

President Trump’s meeting with the Syrian Interim President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, marked the first time in 25 years that an American President had met face to face with a Syrian President, and the announcement that all sanctions were being dropped signaled a new beginning, not only for relations between the two countries, but a new era of relations in the Middle East region.

President Trump said that the lifting of the sanctions gives Syria, “a fresh start.” It gives them a chance for greatness. The sanctions were really crippling, very powerful.” Yes, al-Sharaa used to be a key player in al-Qaida, but seems to have shifted his ideology away from terrorism to become an agent of positive change. President Trump said, “I think they have to get themselves straightened up. I told him, ‘I hope you’re going to join (the Abraham Accords) when it’s straightened out.’ He said, ‘Yes.’ But they have a lot of work to do.”

No, it’s not a perfect arrangement, and not one that Israel is very pleased with, but lifting sanctions is a big carrot that can always be reinstated if need be, but Al-Sharaa knows well that stability in his own country now depends on the ability to rejoin the world economy, and long-term stability only comes through peace in the region built upon the foundation of the Abraham Accords. According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump urged al-Sharaa to diplomatically recognize Israel, “tell all foreign terrorists to leave Syria” and help the U.S. stop any resurgence of the Islamic State group.

The dropping of sanctions was met with cheering crowds and fireworks in the streets of Damascus by the people of Syria who had risen up against, and thrown out Bashar al Assad, having had more than enough of Iran’s influence and oppression within their country. Clearly, al-Sharaa knows well that should he lead Syria back down that path, he won’t survive in power for very long.

President Trump left no doubt that al-Sharaa must take bold steps to keep sanctions from coming back. Gulf Arab leaders have recently rallied behind the new government in Syria, and they want Trump to follow, but Trump let it be known that the U.S. is no longer in the “follow” mode…we’re leading and the Gulf Arab leaders are now rallying around the United States.

President Trump’s next stop was in Qatar, a nation he said during his first term was a state sponsor of terrorism. Trump became the first U.S. President to ever visit Qatar, and while there, not only inked more multi-billion dollar investment deals, he also made it clear to the Emir of Qatar, that war is bad for business, and Qatar needs to take an active role in bringing about regional stability by ending their relationship with Iran, and Iran’s proxies. In yet another example of recognizing U.S. leadership in the region, a leadership not existent over the past four years as the region descended into chaos, the Emir said, “We’re looking to you to do the right thing for peace in the region.”

Like all of the countries President Trump visited on this trip, Qatar is a very rich nation, but the Emir knows that even greater prosperity will come with regional stability, and while in Qatar, President Trump said, “Gaza has been a territory of death and destruction for many years, I have concepts for Gaza that I think are very good — make it a freedom zone. Let the United States get involved and make it just a freedom zone.” That was a clear signal to Qatar, which has long played both sides of the field between Israel and Hamas, that it’s time to drop Hamas, and Iran and get solidly on the side of stability that can never be achieved as long as Iran or their proxies hold any sway in the area.

Everywhere President Trump went on this trip, he was met not only met with grand ceremonies and grander investments in the U.S., but he was also met with welcome relief from countries and their leaders who are tired of the regional chaos due to a total vacuum of leadership from the White House over the past four years, but not everybody appears to be as thrilled as are the Arab States.

Notably missing from President Trump’s swing through the region was Israel, and there have been recent rumors that there exists some sort of rift between the strong allies. I’m not willing to buy into those rumors, at least not at this point. Looking at the bigger picture, I believe it was more advantageous for Trump to put all the focus of this trip on the Arab States, as doing such elevates our position in the region in their eyes, and in their culture. Culture is key in that part of their world, and having the President of the United States make a trip to their nations, and only their nations is a big, big deal.

Ultimately, President Trump wants peace in that region, but he knows peace cannot be had without first bringing about stability. I believe the Arab leaders also understand this concept, and that’s why they not only rolled out the purple and red carpets for our President, but bestowed upon him their highest civilian honors, lit their Palaces and buildings in red, white and blue, but also made the sorts of investments they made. Stability means prosperity, and prosperity takes cooperation. They get that, and so too does President Trump.

This trip wasn’t all about the money as many in the media would make it out to be. No…this was the most complete reset of our position on the world stage we have ever seen. What President Trump did in just four days was beyond bold, or brash. It was audacious. By meeting the Arab leaders on their turf, not on their terms, he gained their absolute respect, and at the same time, he managed to isolate our, and their adversaries. The Arab leaders don’t really want to do business with China, or with Russia as they see them as only wanting to gain a foothold in the region. The deals the Arab leaders made with President Trump regarding energy, military equipment and especially AI and chips show that what they want is stability and prosperity rather than being controlled, or beholding to domineering despots.

As for Iran, none of the Arab leaders want any more of Iran’s influence in the region. They have had it with Iran, and Iran’s proxies causing chaos, death and destruction.

As for Israel, Arab State leaders understand that Israel is the most stable influence in the Middle East, and they fully understand that partnering with Israel, and with the U.S. is the only way to expand that stability, increase their own prosperity, an eventually create peace. I fully believe that over the next few months, some, if not all of them will sign on to the Abraham Accords thus isolating Iran even more.

Let’s call it what it is…the Trump Doctrine…peace through strength and prosperity.

Gone is any talk of replacing the American dollar as the go-to currency for world economics. Gone is the vacuum of leadership on the world stage that caused destabilization. And gone too is the old way of handling foreign policy. It is a new dawn and the United States has reclaimed her rightful position front and center on the world stage.

Barack Hussein Obama led from behind and created vacuums of power throughout the Middle East, from Egypt to Libya and beyond, leaving them to be filled by the purveyors of destruction. The Biden/Harris regime was, in and of itself a powerless vacuum, and Arab leaders knew full-well they couldn’t make deals with someone who wasn’t even running his own agenda.

Over the span of just four short days, President Trump left no doubt, no question, and no hesitation in showing that he is leading from the front, and that America is back, bigger, stronger and more willing than ever before to take center stage economically and politically to once again be the shining light on the hill.
