A singular day set aside to honor those who have served this nation, the cause of freedom, liberty throughout the world and here at home.

One day, when we should all come together and offer our thanks to those who, throughout the decades and centuries, have preserved our freedom, our rights and our way of life.

Just one day?

No…

That’s simply not right.

Do we enjoy our liberty just one day of the year?

Do we live in freedom only on the 11th of November every year?

Are so many others, in far flung places around the world free for just a specific 24 hours according to a date on a calendar?

Certainly not.

Why then do we celebrate Veterans Day on only a single day?

Camouflage and Christmas Lights

Every year, it seems, somebody asks me what I want for Christmas.

Over the years, the list has changed.

As a boy, my list included toys, maybe a new bike or a sled and maybe, just maybe, a puppy.

Such a list, I believe, is still the norm for kids today.

As I grew older, the list included more, substantial items.

A calculator, a new stereo, hiking boots and maybe, just maybe, a puppy.

By the time I was in college, my Christmas list had evolved to include a new camera lens, something for my first car…a 1977 Chevy Chevette,  money for spring break and maybe, just maybe…
