Heroes and Martyrs…We All Have Them

The event took place on January 23, 1945, near Tettingen, Germany.

Master Sergeant Oresko’s official Medal of Honor citation was read to him on October 30th 1945 by  Harry S. Truman.

M/Sgt. Oresko was a platoon leader with Company C, in an attack against strong enemy positions. Deadly automatic fire from the flanks pinned down his unit. Realizing that a machinegun in a nearby bunker must be eliminated, he swiftly worked ahead alone, braving bullets which struck about him, until close enough to throw a grenade into the German position. He rushed the bunker and, with pointblank rifle fire, killed all the hostile occupants who survived the grenade blast. Another machinegun opened up on him, knocking him down and seriously wounding him in the hip. Refusing to withdraw from the battle, he placed himself at the head of his platoon to continue the assault. As withering machinegun and rifle fire swept the area, he struck out alone in advance of his men to a second bunker. With a grenade, he crippled the dug-in machinegun defending this position and then wiped out the troops manning it with his rifle, completing his second self-imposed, 1-man attack. Although weak from loss of blood, he refused to be evacuated until assured the mission was successfully accomplished. Through quick thinking, indomitable courage, and unswerving devotion to the attack in the face of bitter resistance and while wounded, M/Sgt. Oresko killed 12 Germans, prevented a delay in the assault, and made it possible for Company C to obtain its objective with minimum casualties.

The event took place on On September 8, 2009, near the village of Ganjgal, Afghanistan.

Corporal Dakota L. Myer’s official Medal of Honor citation was read to him on September 15th, 2011, by Barack Hussein Obama.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the repeated risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as a member of Marine Embedded Training Team 2-8, Regional Corps Advisory Command 3-7, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, on 8 September 2009. When the forward element of his combat team began to be hit by intense fire from roughly 50 Taliban insurgents dug-in and concealed on the slopes above Ganjgal village, Corporal Meyer mounted a gun-truck, enlisted a fellow Marine to drive, and raced to attack the ambushers and aid the trapped Marines and Afghan soldiers. During a six hour fire fight, Corporal Meyer single-handedly turned the tide of the battle, saved 36 Marines and soldiers and recovered the bodies of his fallen brothers. Four separate times he fought the kilometer up into the heart of a deadly U-shaped ambush. During the fight he killed at least eight Taliban, personally evacuated 12 friendly wounded, and provided cover for another 24 Marines and soldiers to escape likely death at the hands of a numerically superior and determined foe. On his first foray his lone vehicle drew machine gun, mortar, rocket grenade and small arms fire while he rescued five wounded soldiers. His second attack disrupted the enemy’s ambush and he evacuated four more wounded Marines. Switching to another gun-truck because his was too damaged they again sped in for a third time, and as turret gunner killed several Taliban attackers at point blank range and suppressed enemy fire so 24 Marines and soldiers could break-out. Despite being wounded, he made a fourth attack with three others to search for missing team members. Nearly surrounded and under heavy fire he dismounted the vehicle and searched house to house to recover the bodies of his fallen team members. By his extraordinary heroism, presence of mind amidst chaos and death, and unselfish devotion to his comrades in the face of great danger, Corporal Meyer reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

On November 11th, 2011, 94 year old Nicolas Oresko, our nation’s oldest living recipient of the Medal of Honor and Dakota Myer, our nation’s most recent living recipient of the Medal of Honor met at the annual Veteran’s Day Parade in New York City.

Take a good look.

These are the sorts of people Conservatives call heroes. They span generations and hundreds of years. They come in all colors but they fought, and fight, for only 3 colors.

Red…White and Blue.

These are OUR heroes. They fight for freedom and liberty. They fight for us and for others around the world. They do not seek personal gain from their efforts nor do they seek fame. They were doing their jobs.

They don’t regard themselves as heroes. It’s our job to honor them as such and to never forget what they have done. We call them what they will not call themselves.

Liberals have heroes too.

Take a good look.

They fight for what others have. They DO seek personal gain and/or fame.

Liberal heroes feel entitled to their status and will shout about it until they are recognized and they wear their arrest record as their badge of honor.

Conservatives also have martyrs.

Take a good look.

They come in all colors. Those pictured above are but a small handful of the hundreds of thousands who went before them over the decades and centuries. These are the ones who fought for the exact same ideals as did our heroes but never made it back alive.

Liberals have martyrs too.

Take a good look.

A liberal martyr is the flavor of the day or the week. They will be left behind by liberal heroes just as soon as a new and more politically expedient martyr comes along.

The heroes of Conservatives give of themselves to their country to provide us freedom.

The heroes of liberals feel entitled that their country provide for them what others have earned.

The martyrs of conservatives gave all they had.

The martyrs of liberals are exploited for all they’re worth.

Who we honor and hold in high regard and how we do it is a direct reflection of the regard with which we hold our nation.

Some time today, stand in front of a mirror.

Take a good look.

  1. My farther also was a WW2. Disabled Vet In the Fifty eight years of my life he only talked of his experiences Twice just before he passed . I,am the only non combat vet in my family dating back to 1863. I only bring this up to say. I support the Tea Party and the conservative Movement to honor There memories and for my children. We have to take a stand, since so many have given so much we can’t be the ones to let our country crumble and evolve into something that would dis honer there memories . GOD BLESS AMERICA PLEASE LET,S FIGHT TO SAVE HER

  2. My Father, now deceased, was my hero. He got a commendation metal in 1918 for saving two fellow lives while in the US Coast Guard. In WW2 he was a radio operator on Merchant ships, torpedoed once, many voyages to the Baltic and Mediterranean. Then in the Korean War he again as a radio operator in the US Merchant Marines anchored in Inchon harbor and evacuated a boat load of injured after MacArthur’s invasion of the mainland of Korea. Last by not least he was called up during the build up in Vietnam and made two trips to that war area. He was asked to continue but he gave it up because he was now 70 years old and technology had improved so much he found himself not able to keep up.

  3. After reading the wonderul comments written by Margaret Hood and Kathryn Weishar, I am in awe and don’t feel worthy to add a thing, except, perhaps that to wish President Ronald Reagan had been the president to award them their medals. HE would have considered it a huge honor just to be in the same room with Nicolas Oresko and Dakota Myer! What a blessing they have been to our nation and the freedom we, at present, enjoy, and I salute all who serve our country.

  4. True heroes indeed, but can they save us from our own Government? Those heroes did what they had to do, was that in vain? Our Government is the most corrupt. We no longer have Representatives that Represent the people, they all represent big companies and who can give them the most re election $$
We no longer have Government by the people, we are no longer represented, think about it.

  5. This for me is what I write and write some more about. It is what I reach out to others to start their way to the right and know that it is the right choice.
The only thing that upsets me is a glaring insult to the two men who proudly wear the Medal Of Honor. That is that it was awarded to them by an individual who has no respect for them or any other military personnel.
After all, he states they are all volunteer and they know the risks they take upon induction. Therefore the medical care that should be given free to them for life is given to Muslims in the witless wonders health bill at no cost at all. It is referred to as Dhimmitude. It is in the horrendous bill before the SCOTUS right now and may God be with our true heroes of it is passed.
Jane Fonda is a perfect example of the audacity of the liberal idiocy which is Hollywood. She has the temerity to be cast as Nancy Reagan in an upcoming film. This is an abomination!!!!! I am asking, no pleading that everyone who cares for our troops and know them as our heroes please boycott this film. Do not hand Hanoi Jane, traitor and treasonous purveyor of lies, any more silver to put in the bag she clutches in her hand.
Nancy Reagan has proven to be a gracious and gentle lady who loved her husband Ronald and respected our nation along side of him. She does not deserve to be portrayed by an individual who should rot in the Hanoi Hilton.

As for our true heroes I want you to know that you are to me the most courageous of America’s citizens and live by an oath that guarantees the continuity of our freedoms. The interloper in our White House should not be Commander-in- chief. He needs to go home to be the village idiot for the rest of his life. He is a hypocrite and was not sincere in the award to these two men, it was recited from a teleprompter and written by another. Awards such as these should be given by those who know first hand the horrors of battle. It is an award that should be given from the heart, not from a visual aid.

God Bless you both and all my heroes who fight for what all Conservatives believe in, The Bill Of Rights and our cherished Constitution. I salute you, one and all.

  6. Dear Craig, Thank you so much for this Roll Call of our heroes! My family like many families lost loved ones in WW1 WW11. Many of those who came home hardly talked about the war except for missing their ‘buddies.” It was HELL, and how could they share war experiences with those who would never know the heavy price this country has paid in order to sercure our freedom. I still have my Uncles decorative silk pillow given as a gift to my mother. He was wounded when the Japanese did a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Another, a cousin fought in the Korean war and he too could not talk about his experiences, only to those who shared a common task and came home. Recently, I had the honor of meeting a “Wounded Warrior” who fought in Viet Nam. He attended the same fitness gym that I belong to. As I was doing the treadmill walk, he sat down on another piece of gym equipment beside of me. We began to talk softly, and I noticed he has a propth. leg. We shared some light talk and even some laughter as he announced to the gym overseerer that all the TV news was represented above except for FOX NEWS! He asked why and the young guy said, nobody request it!! So I along with him said we would employ them to do so! Today’s world is a bit different when he and I came up and we shared some values we were raised with. He said in his day, people stuck together in a common bond to defeat the enemy. Today, many people strike out for this cause and that cause and it only divides us. This president today is responsible for many things gone wrong with this country…but the thing that worries me most is ‘HOW COULD WE HAVE ELECTED THIS MAN TO BE PRESIDENT OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY? This alone speaks volumes and we must get it right this next election or lose our last chance at putting Americans back to work and bringing ourTROOPS home, after the last Mission begun by Pres. George W. Bush, could finally say…’MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.” Anything less would be political exploitation of our UNITED STATES MILITARY!” *****SEMPER FI **
