Let’s talk about the price of gas, shall we? I mean, why not? Everybody ELSE is.
It’s going up.
There are many reasons for this.
Circumstances in the Middle East, Iran embargoing oil to Europe and England have oil speculators…speculating and whenever they do THAT…The price of a barrel goes UP. The prospect of war between Israel and Iran is also fueling higher oil prices.
The price ALWAYS goes up in the summer month because of the differing blends mandated by the EPA. Those blends can also vary from state to state but in FEBRUARY??? Gas prices have NEVER been this high in FEBRUARY which means, by the time it’s time for the summer blends, the price will go even HIGHER.
Of course, as the price of gas climbs, so too will the prices of everything else.
Socks? Price is gonna go up. Food? Up, up, up. Auto parts? Yep…Up. You name it and the price is going to rise because of gas prices. Everything you buy has to get from where it’s made to where you buy it and if the cost of transporting your Chinese manufactured socks is going up, so is the price of the socks.
There is a great deal of focus, right now, on the nixed Keystone XL Pipeline.
Liberal/socialists are tripping all over themselves pointing out how allowing the pipeline would NOT bring down the cost of gas TODAY.
Maybe not but you can’t discount those oil speculators either. If they were to see a pipeline being okayed or holes being drilled into American soil or American waters, they would be dropping the price of a barrel of oil.
President Bush, responding to sharply rising oil prices, mentioned opening more offshore drilling and what happened? The next day, the price of a barrel of oil showed its biggest single day drop in 5 years. Why? Because the mere THOUGHT of more DOMESTIC oil supplies caused OPEC’s hinies to pucker up.
Of course, the Keystone Pipeline wouldn’t be online for several years but…GOD FORBID THAT OBAMA SHOULD BE FAR SIGHTED ENOUGH BELIEVE BUILDING THE PIPELINE NOW, WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY LESSEN THE LIKELIHOOD OF THIS HAPPENING IN 5 YEARS!!!
Oh but, according to Jay Carney…Obama’s mouthpiece…Obama DIDN’T deny the pipeline.
“But the President didn’t turn down the Keystone pipeline. There was a process in place, with long precedent, run out of the State Department because of the issue of the pipeline crossing an international boundary, that required an amount of time for proper for review after an alternate route was deemed necessary through Nebraska at the request of the Republican Governor of Nebraska and other stakeholders in Nebraska and the region that needed to play out, to be done appropriately. You can’t review and approve a pipeline, the route for which doesn’t even exist.”
Let’s go to Obama’s own statement last month when he DIDN’T deny the pipeline.
“As the State Department made clear last month, the rushed and arbitrary deadline insisted on by Congressional Republicans prevented a full assessment of the pipeline’s impact, especially the health and safety of the American people, as well as our environment. As a result, the Secretary of State has recommended that the application be denied. And after reviewing the State Department’s report, I agree.”
I have a theory.
Gas prices will continue to rise. Into the early months of summer, gas prices will rise above $5.00 per gallon.
Then…Something will happen.
It might be a reversal on the denial of Keystone or, the opening of more offshore drilling permits…Something…
By late summer or early fall, the price of a barrel of crude will drop.
At that point, heading into the election, this dingle berry…or…is it dingle bArry on the buttocks of humanity, will take credit for bringing the cost of gas down.
“We’re moving in the right direction,” he’ll say. “I have implemented policies which have brought down the cost of gas and save the world as we know it,” he’ll claim.
It’s pretty much the same claim of success he’s been making about unemployment. Oh sure, unemployment is still higher today than when he claimed it wouldn’t go above 8% if we let him blow a trillion bucks on stimulus but…
While contemplating this theory, why not take a look back at some of Obama’s statements on the cost of gas?
HARWOOD: So could these high prices help us?
Sen. OBAMA: “I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing. But if we take some steps right now to help people make the adjustment, first of all by putting more money into their pockets, but also by encouraging the market to adapt to these new circumstances more quickly, particularly US automakers, then I think ultimately, we can come out of this stronger and have a more efficient energy policy than we do right now.”
“If you’re complaining about the price of gas and you’re only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know…you might want to think about a trade-in.”
“With skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear that the American people can no longer afford the Republican Rubber Stamp Congress and its failure to stand up to Republican big oil and gas company cronies.” “Americans this week are paying $2.91 a gallon on average for regular gasoline – 33 cents higher than last month, and double the price than when President Bush first came to office.”
“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”
“You can inflate your tires to the proper levels and that if everybody in America inflated their tires to the proper level we would actually probably save more oil than all the oil that we’d get from John McCain drilling right below his feet there.”
“But the truth is, there is no easy answer to our energy crisis, and we need a president who is going to be straight with us about that.”
AND we have Obama’s Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, who piped up in 2008, stating… “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”
And finally, a brief recap of the way the media is covering gas prices today against how they handled it just a few years ago.
Luckily, the cost of throwing gas on the conservative fire has NOT gone up. You can share the link to THIS article…For FREE!!
