Who Knew…When…And Why Didn’t Anybody Try To Stop It?

Joe Paterno knew. He knew about Jerry Sandusky. Paterno knew back in 1998 that Sandusky was being investigated on charges of child molestation and he knew in 2002 when Mike McQueary told him what he witnessed in the shower room. Paterno knew and all he did was kick it a rung or two up the ladder. Paterno told the Penn State Athletic Director and the school’s Vice President.

If McQueary knew and Paterno knew, and Curley and Schultz knew…so did a lot of other people. Graham Spanier, the school’s President knew. He’s the former President now.

It’s impossible to believe that, among a coaching staff which works so closely together every day, they didn’t all know.

A Pennsylvania DA who had investigated Sandusky back in 1998 vanished in 2005. Vanished, never to be seen or heard from again and has now been declared legally dead but no trace of his body has been found either. That DA knew.

How many people who knew told someone else what they knew about Sandusky? Did they tell a husband or a wife or a friend at the bar on a Saturday night after a Penn State win? How many people knew what was going on with Sandusky?

While it’s impossible to say exactly how many people knew we can now tell you how many people did the right thing once they found out.

None of them.

Sandusky has been charged with 40 counts of molesting children and so far, there are 8 victims, that we know of. I suspect there will be more.

Paterno has been fired. Spanier has been fired. McQueary is on “Administrative leave” paid for now but that may or may not last. He won’t be on the sideline today when Penn State takes on Nebraska.

Curley and Shultz have been indicted on perjury charges for lying to a grand jury.

Sandusky is out on bail…yes…OUT ON BAIL…while he awaits trial.

There are at least 8 victims whose lives have been altered, and not for the better, forever.

Why? Why did it happen? How did it ever get this far?

Simple.

Penn State and Penn State football are institutions which were deemed…”Too big to fail.”

Eric Holder knew. He knew about Fast and Furious. Holder knew from the beginning as various memos and even his own speeches indicate and he knew when agent Brian Terry was killed. Holder knew and all he did was kick it a rung or two down the ladder.

A lot of other people knew about it too. William Hoover, the number 2 man at the ATF and Mark Chait, the head of field investigations knew and so did Kenneth Melson, the head of the ATF. He’s the former head of the ATF now.

It’s impossible to believe that, among agencies which must work closely together on such an operation, they didn’t all know.

A U.S. Senator personally handed to Holder, 2 memos containing details of Fast and Furious in January of 2011 and according to Holder, any memory of that event has vanished from his memory. Senator Grassley remembered though.

How many people who knew, told someone in some other agency what they knew of Fast and Furious? Did they tell someone at ICE or at the State Department or Homeland Security at a high level meeting behind closed doors? How many high level officials knew what was going on with Fast and Furious?

While it’s impossible to say how far up the chain of command or how many agencies knew, we can now tell you how many people did the right thing once they found out about this destined to fail operation.

None of them.

The body count related to Fast and Furious weapons is over 200 that we know of. I suspect there will be more.

Kenneth Melson resigned. Chait and Hoover have been reassigned but are still receiving government paychecks.

Holder has been subpoenaed to appear before a House Judiciary Committee in December and some 35 Congress Members are calling for him to resign or be fired but so far, Holder remains in charge as our nation’s Attorney General.

Lives lost including a U.S. border agent.

Why? Why did it happen? How did it ever go that far?

Simple.

Obama and his administration are institutions deemed…”Too big to fail.”

  1. Good article, Craig. It’s a shame that anything has been allowed to go as far as it has in our country, but it has none the less because people have forgotten God and they have forgotten our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. If we are to turn things around, then we must return to God. We need revival like never before, and we need to study our founding documents and elect those to office who will support and defend our constitution.
