A New GOP Leader Leads to a New Attack – Aquila

Herman Cain has jumped into the lead of the GOP race to the nomination. He has bypassed Perry and now Romney. Cain is the front runner at this point and that can mean only one thing.

LET THE LIBERAL ATTACKS BEGIN!!!

While The National Patriot is not, at this time, endorsing any specific candidate, we will stand against unwarranted attacks upon them brought forth by liberals.

Completely unable to run on policy, the liberal machine has but a single strategy…Personally attack anyone they believe might be a threat.

Herman Cain is in a unique position as he has never before held an elective office – so when it comes to attacking Cain, his business record becomes the target, and what you will begin to see on social media will be designed to do one thing: Divide conservatives by planting the seeds of doubt.

Today, because of his front runner status, Herman Cain is the target.

Here is the weapon they will attempt to use.

Liberals will try to equate Herman Cain’s association with Aquila, a gas company in the Midwest with the downfall of Enron.

Liberals will say that Cain played a key role in Aquila’s problems and point to a class action lawsuit to prove it.

True enough, Aquila encouraged employees to turn their pensions into company stock and many lost their entire investment because of it; and true enough, Cain was a board member; but, to say he played a key part in the whole thing would be a grossly misleading statement.

Herman Cain was NOT the CEO of Aquila, he wasn’t even the Board President. Herman Cain was, initially, an INDEPENDENT BOARD MEMBER who was NOT privy to the day-to-day operations of the company.

Herman Cain chaired the compensation committee which, according to the company, oversaw pay and bonus’ for executives and other positions. The bonuses that he approved were in line for the time when the entire company was seeing high profits in the late 90’s. Bonus’s are based on the previous
year performance. The financial problem with Aquila didn’t show up until mid 2001 during the recession.”

There were two other committees, the Pension and Benefits Committee and the Retirement Committee which were the committees directly related to the “pension and retirement for company stock” issue which brought about the class action lawsuit. Herman Cain was never a part of either of those committees and, therefore, was not involved in those aspects of the company, those policies or their direction to encourage employees to move their pensions and or retirement into stocks.

Was Herman Cain named in the lawsuit? Yes. In any class action lawsuit, nearly anybody who was, in any way, related to the company, regardless of their position or duties, is named. This is far from unusual and is a matter of simple procedure in filing such a suit.

It wasn’t until late 2002 that Cain, according to the company, “Aquila’s independent directors met in a separate session and appointed independent director Herman Cain, as the presiding independent director of the board of directors.” In this, Cain was still an independent director who sat on the Board.

Herman Cain served as an independent director for Aquila from 1992 – 2008.

Liberal reports imply, and falsely so, that Aquila collapsed and equate it to Enron when in fact, during the time Cain was there, Aquila had some of the class action lawsuits against them dismissed and settled others and in the year before Cain left that Board, Aquila announced that they would merge with Great Plains Energy and as a part of that 1.7 billion dollar deal, the Black Hills Corporation would acquire the electric and gas utilities in 4 states for 940 million dollars. That merger became reality in 2008, Cain’s final year on the Board and Aquila is now Kansas City Power & Light.

While liberals try to spin Herman Cain’s Board Membership with Aquila as an Enron-style company disaster, the truth is that Cain was never a part of the problem – and it could well be pointed out that he was, at least in part, responsible for the solution.

Whenever reports like those now aimed against Cain come out, one must always consider the source and the timing. The first round of these Aquila accusations against Cain, from liberals, came out in May about the time Cain announced his plans to run but at that time, they gained no traction. Now, just as Cain takes the lead amongst the GOP candidates, here they come again.

Liberals, for all their faults, have correctly identified the fact that conservatives have staked claims on individual candidates which are hard and fast. Because of this, liberals know they can put out such misinformation and conservatives, loyal to a specific candidate, will latch on and use that misinformation to play against another GOP candidate.

It’s time for conservatives to unite against liberals and their socialist agenda. Rather than promote a specific candidate, conservatives should be promoting the conservative platform and insisting that all GOP candidates promote their individual ideas of how to best achieve that end.

If candidates continue to snipe at each other, as they have for weeks, conservative voters will do likewise and no clear platform or leader will emerge.

Instead of looking for “deal BREAKERS” conservatives must look for “deal MAKERS” weed out those who’s platforms and campaigns aren’t moving forward to reduce the viable number of candidates to a manageable figure and weigh the positives rather than the negatives.

Clearly, there are things regarding Herman Cain which do deserve questions such as his change of direction on a Fed audit and his past backing of TARP – but the question on the Fed issue should be why he now feels an audit should be done when he once felt otherwise; and as to TARP, why did he support it then, what has changed and would he favor such a move in the future?

What we should be asking our candidates, and not just those running for President, is what steps they would take to ensure the situations which led to the need for such things as TARP never present themselves again.

The bottom line is this. Do not be fooled into allowing liberals to use the divide and conquer strategy and know that whoever the GOP front runner or eventual nominee might be, they will be the direct target of that strategy.

Selecting the best nominee is quite like driving a car. It always good to know what’s behind you but if you spend all your time behind the wheel looking into the rear view mirror, you’re not paying attention to where you want to go.

  1. LOL!!! If this were a liberal you would be all over it like white on rice.

Don’t play the same goshdamned games as the liberals do and make rationalizations for the jackals, I mean politicians, who don’t give a damn about this public. Herman Cain is no more conservative than Chairman Mao. He is just the latest politician for spinning gold-plated bullshit that the gullible want to hear. He is no less a bankster’s whore than the current Fraud-In-Chief. How DARE you call yourself a conservative and defend a man that wants to sneak in a VAT under the terms of his 9-9-9 plan which is what Lefties like Al Gore have been salivating over for years!!!! Cain, a conservative??? My A$$!!!!

  2. Also watch out for the false claims that Herman Cain’s tax plan would raise taxes on the poor or are some kind of windfall for the rich. These claims have no basis in fact When confronted, the accusers can’t produce any solid support for their claims, but rather, want to repeat talking points to produce doubts.

  3. I more worried about him raising my taxes by 3000 dollars. The idea this guy is conservative is a joke, he just wants to bleed me while giving his rich friends a brake. No Thanks.
