Second Amendment Rights

The last couple days there’s been a story on the news about an ‘intruder’ who broke into someone’s house to steal things, and then called 911 on himself. He was afraid the home owner might shoot him. I can only imagine the Liberal outrage if the home owner had shot the intruder – even though it would have been perfectly legal. The arguments would run something like this: Breaking and entering isn’t a capital crime, and neither is burglary.

And that is true. But when someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night you don’t know if they are a thief, a kidnapper, or a mass murderer. And if an unknown intruder is sneaking towards your baby’s nursery, or the room where your children are sleeping? What parent wouldn’t do anything necessary to protect their child(ren)? The Law understands this, and makes self defense legal.

As for calling 911; what if it is someone violent, and the police can’t get there in time? Just to restate, shooting an intruder is legal. And if the intruder had time to call 911, why didn’t he just run?

Living in Utah, the case of Elizabeth Smart comes to mind. What if her father could turn back time and be waiting for John Mitchell with a gun that night? Even if he didn’t shoot, just use it to scare the monster away and save his daughter from what would happen to her?

Liberals try to embarrass our strong Conservative men by saying ‘gun owners are trying to compensate for something’. Well, guess what, that is sometimes true (hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day). I am a gun owner, and I am compensating for something: the fact that I am a 4’11”, 115 lb woman. Other women gun owners can say the same. We need something to make up for the height/weight advantage most any male attacker would have on us.

Liberals would have us believe a woman found violated and dead in an alley is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining how her attacker got that gunshot wound. And if the wound was fatal… well… oops. Personally, if a man attacked me, I’d aim a bit lower than his heart; at an organ that is more sensitive, but less vital.

Liberals like to use the mass shootings as an excuse for gun control. Well, there was a shooting here in Salt Lake City, Utah, a few years ago. It was at a local mall. The shooter was stopped by an off duty police officer, carrying his own personal (not police issue) gun. It’s believed a lot more lives would have been lost that night without a legally armed citizen. Would the shooter at Virginia Tech have been stopped sooner if someone there had been legally armed?

Liberals also try to say that the 2nd Amendment refers only to flintlocks, and other guns from the Revolutionary Era. Yet not a single gun control law makes an exception for these antiques.

I did hear that gun and ammo sales spiked dramatically between when Obama was elected and when he took office. A guy who believes in gun control being responsible for additional gun and ammo sales… Gotta love that.
